How do I subscribe to a podcast?
Tap the Search tab, enter the podcast name, and tap on the result. On the podcast page, tap the Subscribe button. The podcast will appear in your Subscriptions tab.
How do I limit the Episodes?
Episode Limits controls how many episodes appear per podcast in your feed. Set a global default (1–20) and override it individually for any podcast. Choose from four modes: All backfills slots as you listen, New only admits fresh arrivals, Old works through your backlog in order, and Latest Only keeps exactly N newest episodes. Episodes beyond the limit are hidden, not deleted.
How do I download episodes for offline listening?
On any episode, swipe and tap the download icon. Downloaded episodes are available without an internet connection and can be managed in Settings. In settings you can choose to automatically download new episodes of subscribed podcasts.
How are episodes and downloads managed with Auto-Remove?
Automatically clean up episodes after you finish listening. Pick a delay — from immediately to 3 days — and JappCast removes played episodes from your feed and deletes their downloaded files. Removed episodes won't reappear on the next feed refresh. Choose "Never" to keep played episodes indefinitely.
How does the sleep timer work?
Open the full player and tap the sleep timer icon. Choose a countdown duration or select "End of Episode" to stop playback when the current episode finishes.
Can I control playback from my Apple Watch?
Yes. Install JappCast on your Apple Watch to see Now Playing controls. Your iPhone must be nearby.
How do I create a playlist?
Go to the List tab, tap the "+" button to create a new playlist. You can add episodes from any podcast, reorder them with drag-and-drop, and choose different sort modes.
How do I add podcasts to a playlist?
Go to the subscription or episode page, and swipe to add a episode to a playlist. Select multiple podcasts and select add to playlist. In Podcast Detail View tap the "Add to Playlist" button, and select the playlist you want to add it to.
How do I use Siri with JappCast?
JappCast supports Apple Shortcuts. Open the Shortcuts app to find JappCast actions for playback, sleep timer, and playlists. You can trigger these with Siri or automations.
How do I use Transcription (RSS + AI)?
Read along with any podcast episode. JappCast checks the RSS feed first — if the podcast publishes an official transcript, it loads instantly with no download required (labelled RSS). Otherwise, tap Start Transcription to generate one using on-device speech recognition — no audio ever leaves your device. On iOS 26+ with Apple Intelligence, transcripts are labelled AI; on earlier versions they use the system speech framework. The transcript scrolls in sync with playback, and you can tap any line to jump to that moment.
How do I use Translation ?
After a transcript is ready, switch to the Translated view to read it in your preferred language. Translation runs entirely on-device using Apple's Translation framework. Set your target language in Settings, and JappCast handles the rest — including prompting you to download the language model if needed. Supports any language pair available on your device.
How do I change the app theme?
Go to Settings and tap Themes. The default theme is free. Additional themes (Fairy Tale, Glamour, Cyberpunk) are available with a Pro unlock.
The app is not playing audio in the background
Make sure you have not enabled any Focus modes that might restrict JappCast. Try force-quitting and reopening the app. Background audio should work automatically.

This privacy policy is applicable to the JappCast app (hereinafter referred to as "Application") for mobile devices, which was developed by Christian Rommer (hereinafter referred to as "Service Provider") as a Freemium service. This service is provided "AS IS".

What information does the Application obtain and how is it used?

The Application acquires the information you supply when you download and register the Application. Registration with the Service Provider is not mandatory. However, bear in mind that you might not be able to utilize some of the features offered by the Application unless you register with them.

The Service Provider may also use the information you provided them to contact you from time to time to provide you with important information, required notices and marketing promotions.

What information does the Application collect automatically?

In addition, the Application may collect certain information automatically, including, but not limited to, the type of mobile device you use, your mobile device's unique device ID, the IP address of your mobile device, your mobile operating system, the type of mobile Internet browsers you use, and information about the way you use the Application.

Does the Application collect precise real-time location information of the device?

This Application does not gather precise information about the location of your mobile device.

Does the Application use Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies?

The Application does not use Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to process your data or provide features.

Do third parties see and/or have access to information obtained by the Application?

Only aggregated, anonymized data is periodically transmitted to external services to aid the Service Provider in improving the Application and their service. The Service Provider may share your information with third parties in the ways that are described in this privacy statement.

The Service Provider may disclose User Provided and Automatically Collected Information:

  • as required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena, or similar legal process;
  • when they believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect their rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request;
  • with their trusted service providers who work on their behalf, do not have an independent use of the information we disclose to them, and have agreed to adhere to the rules set forth in this privacy statement.

What are my opt-out rights?

You can halt all collection of information by the Application easily by uninstalling the Application. You may use the standard uninstall processes as may be available as part of your mobile device or via the mobile application marketplace or network.

What is the data retention policy and how can you manage your information?

The Service Provider will retain User Provided data for as long as you use the Application and for a reasonable time thereafter. The Service Provider will retain Automatically Collected information for up to 24 months and thereafter may store it in aggregate. If you'd like the Service Provider to delete User Provided Data that you have provided via the Application, please contact them at support@japp.at and we will respond in a reasonable time. Please note that some or all of the User Provided Data may be required in order for the Application to function properly.

How does the Application address children's privacy?

The Service Provider does not use the Application to knowingly solicit data from or market to children under the age of 13.

The Service Provider does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children. The Service Provider encourages all children to never submit any personally identifiable information through the Application and/or Services. The Service Provider encourages parents and legal guardians to monitor their children's Internet usage and to help enforce this Policy by instructing their children never to provide personally identifiable information through the Application and/or Services without their permission. If you have reason to believe that a child has provided personally identifiable information to the Service Provider through the Application and/or Services, please contact the Service Provider at support@japp.at so that they will be able to take the necessary actions. You must also be at least 16 years of age to consent to the processing of your personally identifiable information in your country (in some countries we may allow your parent or guardian to do so on your behalf).

How is your information kept secure?

The Service Provider are concerned about safeguarding the confidentiality of your information. The Service Provider provide physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect information we process and maintain. For example, we limit access to this information to authorized employees and contractors who need to know that information in order to operate, develop or improve their Application. Please be aware that, although we endeavor to provide reasonable security for information we process and maintain, no security system can prevent all potential security breaches.

How will you be informed of changes to this Privacy Policy?

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time for any reason. The Service Provider will notify you of any changes to the Privacy Policy by updating this page with the new Privacy Policy. You are advised to consult this Privacy Policy regularly for any changes, as continued use is deemed approval of all changes.

How do you give your consent?

By using the Application, you are giving your consent to the Service Provider processing of your information as set forth in this Privacy Policy now and as amended by us. "Processing" means using cookies on a computer/hand held device or using or touching information in any way, including, but not limited to, collecting, storing, deleting, using, combining and disclosing information.
